Holylight's Story

Holylight is the project of Alex Rosenberger (she/they), a producer, multimedia artist and multi-instrumentalist with degrees in both English Literature and Music and Media Technologies.

Born and raised in Munich, Germany, Alex started playing piano from a young age. This led to a big interest in writing and recording her own music, and after learning guitar from her dad, Alex proceeded to teach herself drums, bass guitar, ukulele and began vocal training.

Alex officially started releasing music under the name ‘Holylight’ in 2019. She released her Debut EP BeautyPain in 2024, a cyclical set of songs on the ebb and flow of joy and grief in life, as well as on generational trauma and limerence. The EP was incredibly well received, getting Holylight multiple features on radio stations such as BR Puls, Radar45 and Radio Feierwerk. The songs also marked Holylight’s development into a truly round and mature project, building the base for even more contemplative and complex music to follow.

In 2022, Alex moved to Dublin for her master’s degree at Trinity College. She not only developed and refined her skills in music production, composition and video editing, but also met her current bandmates. This amazing new community alongside the vibrant local queer scene has uniquely shaped Alex’ music and has taken the project into exciting new directions.

During the last three years, Holylight has taken Dublin's alt rock and queer music scene by storm. She and her band have played an incredibly successful EP release concert for BeautyPain and in 2024 became Dublin CityFM Queeriosity Radio’s first ever artist of the month. In 2025, she was elected the winner of the Performative Butch contest held in Street 66 by Booters Butch Bar and Diner London and in 2026, Holylight will continue to show the range that the project is capable of.
